A venture of Redpump, espressostories.com
site explores a new literary form: ultra-short
stories, of 25 words of less.
Prospective authors can submit their own stories to the site, organised
into various 'genres' roughly equivalent to recognised literary genres with
a twist or two. Readers can vote on stories, pushing their authors higher
in the rankings.
The home page provides a jumping-off point for all content; the story
pages each contain one story; and the organising pages link the two by listing
stories, authors, and genres.
It has a revenue stream in Google AdWords, small syndicated ads (right
column) chosen to reflect the page's content. Every click earns the site a few
cents.
The site is completely database-driven, using PostgresSQL and PHP
for the gruntwork and a stylesheet for the design. It's both XML and CSS
compliant.
