The ESTEMPLE model (Angwin, Cummings, Smith 2007) takes PEST analysis further, adding ecological, media, legal, and ethical dimensions to the well-known political / economic / social / technological model.
To gauge each driver's influence on your business context, I score each driver on three axes. Dynamism (intensity and frequency of change), complexity (number, relatedness, and diversity of contributing factors), and unpredictability (cyclicality of change and clarity of data). Even a broad brush can give surprising insights.
